Croydon Central

The constituency is made up of several communities each with their own character and local issues. Here is a little about the area and a couple of links for further local information.

Croydon is one of the largest Boroughs in London and made up of three parliamentary constituencies. Croydon Central takes in the majority of the town centre from Allders and the Whitgift Centre to Taberner House and the Fairfield Halls. As well as reaching up to South Norwood, it reaches down across the Shirley Hills to New Addington.

The constituency is a very disparate area with an electorate of over 83,000 people. Croydon is ethnically diverse, particularly in the north and has pockets of real deprivation in Fieldway and Shrublands as well as the more wealthy areas such as Heathfield. This makes being the MP extremely hard work but interesting and very rewarding tackling the range of issues within this community.

Croydon is home to the Immigration and Nationality Directorate with the well known Lunar House in the town centre and so immigration issues are always high on the agenda. Housing matters also take up a large proportion of the daily postbag.
